Terrorism: linking the psychology of the survivors to that of the executioners

Terrorismo. Vittime contesti e resilienza

"Luca Guglielminetti proposes some important reflections, developed as a consultant to the Italian Association of Victims of Terrorism (Aiviter), as a member of the board of the Italian Group for the Study of Terrorism (GRIST) and of the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) set up by the European Commission. It is an articulated and innovative look, able to connect different episodes and phenomena, in the long history of terrorism. In particular, he offers tools to connect the psychology of victims and the psychology of terrorists. Fear, shame, a sense of helplessness, a desire for revenge and justice, can be linked together to the point of fuelling the spiral of violence. Only a strong awareness of the profound links that bind the psychology of the survivors to that of the executioners can allow us to break the circuits of violence. The peaceful radicalisation of the victims of terrorism is thus presented as a constructive way of countering the phenomena of violent radicalisation which feeds the ranks of terrorists."
