Cinque anni fa un articolo pubblicato da Nature* ha posto fine ad una decennale querelle sugli scimpanzé, sancendo che aveva ragione l’antropologa Jan Goodall la quale, alla fine degli anni sessanta, scoprì che i primati più vicini a noi sono una specie intrinsecamente violenta, capaci di portare avanti guerre e genocidi contro i membri della loro stessa specie.Un violenza interna al gruppo, ma soprattutto tra gruppi in cui la guerra si configura come la migliore strategia per gli individui e per i gruppi per assicurarsi la propria proliferazione, secondo una logica piuttosto banale: se lo scontro si prefigura tra gruppi di pari dimensioni, ovvero forza, la violenza viene solo minacciata e mimata, se invece sono asimmetrici il più grande non esita ad esercitarla sul minore.Oggi non è diverso.Cinque anni fa il mondo intero temeva che un piccolo gruppo di scimmie jihadiste potesse crearsi la sua riserva di raccolta frutta, che oggi chiamo Stato, in quell'area delle mezzaluna fertile che i loro progenitori utilizzavano per uscire dall'Africa e raggiungere Asia ed Europa.Gli interventi dei gruppi di scimmie assai potenti, che una volta chiamavamo imperi, ha impedito loro di realizzare il loro sogno.Oggi un altro piccolo gruppo di scimmie curde che sperava di costruirsi la sua piccola riserva nel Rojava e che si erano prestati ad uno degli imperi per la guerra contro il gruppo jihadista, si trova travolto dal potente gruppo turco (probabilmente aspirante impero) e mollati dal precedente alleato.Cinque anni fa le scimmie d'Europa hanno avuto paura di essere invase da milioni di scimmie che scappavano dalla guerra e hanno rifornito di frutta il potente gruppo turco affinché se le tenesse lui.Oggi le scimmie d'Europa piangono per la scimmie del Rojava e inveiscono contro la nuova guerra voluta dal capo di quelle turche, temendo altresì che il primo gruppo di scimmie jihadiste rialzi la testa.Morale.Le scimmie di tutto il mondo possono ben vedere come quelle europee siano false e ipocrite. Eppure basterebbe che si costruissero un loro esercito per diventare un gruppo di scimmie tra le più potenti al mondo.Peccato che costruire imperi non sia giudicato dalla scimmie europee una gran virtù…

About an Army of European Monkeys
(editorial in the form of a fable)
Five years ago, an article published by Nature* put an end to a a decades of disputes about chimpanzees, stating that anthropologist Jan Goodall was right. At the end of the 1960s, she discovered that the primates closest to us are an intrinsically violent species, capable of waging wars and genocide against members of their own species.
An internal violence within the group, but above all between groups in which the war is configured as the best strategy for individuals and groups to ensure their proliferation, according to a rather banal logic: if the clash is foreshadowed between groups of equal size, or force, the violence is only threatened and mimicked, if instead they are asymmetrical the largest does not hesitate to exercise it on the smallest.
Today, it is no different.
Five years ago, the whole world feared that a small group of jihadist monkeys could create their own fruit-picking reserve, which today we call State, in that area of the Fertile Crescent that all our ancestors used to get out of Africa and reach Asia and Europe.
The interventions of very powerful groups of monkeys, which we once called empires, prevented them from realising their dream.
Today another small group of Kurdish monkeys who hoped to build their own small reserve in the Rojava and who had lent themselves to one of the empires for the war against the Jihadist group, find themselves overwhelmed by the powerful Turkish group (probably an aspiring empire) and left by the previous ally.
Five years ago, the monkeys of Europe were afraid of being invaded by millions of monkeys fleeing the war and supplied the powerful Turkish group with fruit so that they could keep and sustain them.
Today, the monkeys of Europe weep for the monkeys of the Rojava and rage against the new war wanted by the leader of the Turkish ones, also fearing that the first group of jihadist monkeys will raise its head.
Moral.
Monkeys all over the world can clearly see how European monkeys are false and hypocritical. Yet it would be enough for them to build their own army to become one of the most powerful groups of monkeys in the world.
It's a pity that building empires is not judged by European monkeys to be a great virtue...
